The Mirrorpix Archive comprises images from the combined photographic archives of Reach plc newspapers including the Daily Mirror, the Daily Express, the Daily Record, Manchester Evening News, Birmingham Post & Mail, Bristol Post, Newcastle Chronicle & Journal, Derby Evening Telegraph, Coventry Evening Telegraph, Reading Post, Western Mail, and the Hull Daily Mail.
The archive is continually uploading images to its website and this publication features more than 200 photographs illustrating everyday life on Britain's Home Front during the Second World War.
Starting in the late 1930s, the reader is introduced to some of the events that culminated in Great Britain's participation in the greatest conflict in human history. Following chapters look at Air Raid Precautions, and Operation Pied Piper in September 1939. The Home Front covers a wide range of topics including, rationing, feeding the nation, entertainment and sport, the Home Guard, industry, and the Blitz. The final section, Victory and Beyond, tells something of how the war would cast its long shadow into the 1950s.
