This is a story of an Allied force which though compelled to make a strategic withdrawal under pressure from the superior strength of its enemy, never ceased to fight with a determination that eventually saw the end of the Second World War, some 6 years later. This is also a story about one man, Norman Broughton, who served during this period, his regiment and those others that made up just one brigade of the British Expeditionary Force from September 1939 to May 1940.
