The 24 circular walks described in the guide each cover a section of the recently opened southern section of the Pennine Bridleway National Trail with the inclusion of return routes, giving the participants a wider interpretation of the surrounding area. The walks begin near Matlock in Derbyshire at Middleton Top, and progress through the white and dark areas of the Peak District, the south Pennines, the Yorkshire Dales and National Park, and the north Pennines, ending at the trail's present terminus at Street in Cumbria. The route of the PBW and its return routes embrace a remarkable variety of scenery - from heather clad moorland to river valleys, cloughs and pastural meadows. The walks are self contained and are ideally suited to a full days ramble. Each has its own detailed narrative, strip map, notes and illustrations showing features of interest along the way. Also included are large scale maps of the starting points for each walk.
