The complete series will comprise fourteen volumes, thirteen of which will list some 132 Diptera families while the fourteenth will contain the cumulative index. Each fly family will be accompanied by a concise introduction which describes the family, briefly characterizes the imago and (if known) larva, the life-cycle, distribution and the number of species. All volumes will also contain extensive references to the literature.
