Palladio is universally recognized as one of the greatest architects. His finest work, distinguished by a harmony and balance that owed much to his knowledge of the buildings of ancient Rome, was done in and around Vincenza, where he designed town and country houses, bridges, public buildings and churches such as San Giorgio Maggiore and the Redentore in Venice. This documentation of Palladio's life and work has become regarded as the standard work on Palladio. His oeuvre and cultural development are covered and a chronological raisonne of all his documented work is given. Puppi has written numerous articles on the history of the visual arts in Europe between 1400 and 1800. He has published "Sanmicheli Architetto di Verona", "L'Opera Completa di Canaletto", "Verso Gerusalemme" and "Bartolomeo Montagna".
