The Glen of Many Legends has housed 3 feuding clans for years. The Clan MacDonalds, Camerons, and Mackintoshes all lay claim to parts of this Glen and each feel they are the rightful sole owner of the Glen. Bad blood and many deaths all lay between the clans. More recent years the bloodshed is less and they have all learned to grudgingly tolerant each others presents but all are still sworn enemies. With a death of one woman this sort of truce is shatter. The woman in question is birth a MacDonald but was twice widowed. Her late husbands were Camerons and Mackintoshes. She was the hereditary heiress to the Glen. She did not leave a will so with her death each Clan has claimed her so that they can lay claim to all of the Glen. The King after receiving complaints from the Clans about one another resolves to stop the squabbling by issuing a fight to the death. Last man standing from one of the clans will be declared the rightful owner of Glen of Many Legends.
Catriona MacDonald is upset that the King has issued this decree and does not want her brother Alasadair or any of her fellow clansmen to die. Catriona knows that her clan and the Camerons and Mackintoshes will not back away from this decree because if they do not fight then the clans would be forced to move from their homes. Plus no honorable highlander ever backs away from a good fight. She loathes the lowlander and the nobles who have invaded her home to set up the place where the slaughter will take place. She is further annoyed by James Cameron the Chieftain of Clan Cameron. Several years back she had a run in with him that left her fascinated with him. She realizes she has compared every man to him and hasn't been able to forget his threat to kiss her if he ever found her trespassing on his land.
James Cameron has never been able to forget Catriona either. He has tried his best through the years to give her a wide berth when they've crossed paths. He is annoyed with himself for lusting after his enemies sister. After years of avoiding Catriona their paths cross again one early morning. Sensing danger nearby James is forced to intercede Catriona's trek across his land. Catriona has been walking across his land every morning since the lowlanders invaded their home to stare daggers and make it known that she does not welcome them here. Once these two paths cross again they each realize the attraction is strong between them and neither has been able to forget the other. With their clans forced to fight one another, the bad blood between their families and another unknown enemy, will this unlikely pairing be able to survive these obstacles?
My Thoughts:
This was the first book that I've ever read by this author and I'm looking forward to reading more of her books especially the upcoming ones in this series. The storyline was entertaining and the couple were sizzling. I love these enemy/lover story-lines so this was right up my alley. Catriona was headstrong, independent and spunky. She knows what she wants and she goes for it. Poor James Cameron didn't know what hit him once she set out to seduce him. As for James he's your typical highlander alpha male. I loved him. I can't resist a sexy highlander I tell you! I kept laughing every time he was trying to have serious discussion and such but his mind kept wandering back to Catriona. Dirty thoughts our boy James had about Catriona..hehe! The other characters in the book kept me glued to this book as well. I can't wait for other stories in this series. Kendrew Mackintosh the Chieftain of the Mackintosh clan is the one I'm most looking forward to next. Loved his craziness. I love that each Chieftain had sisters who have teamed up to make sure that peace reigns for the Clans that live in this glen. I only had two complaints about this book. I really could have done without the ghost story and all the mythical magical stuff. I thought too much time was spent on all the mythical stuff. It made the book drag a bit for me when those storyline came up in the book. My other complaint was the unknown bad guys. I didn't feel like they were necessary except to add a little thrill at the end there for James to come in and save the day.
Even with those two things I thoroughly enjoyed the book and will be buying the next book in this series. If you love reading stories set in Scotland with sexy highlanders and spunky heroines then you'll enjoy this book too.
