Up-and-coming designer Konstantin Grcic works with everyday objects that just happen to have belonged to Johann Wolfgang von Goethe. Among the apparently banal objects are a pair of the great writer's boots, a belt, several buttons, a glove and precious stones. Grcic juxtaposes these items with his own creations: ashtrays, wash basins, pens and hangers. Grcic is also responsible for the design of this volume, making it a truly unique document. Since studying design at the Royal College of Art in London from 1988 to 1990, Grcic has developed furniture, products and lighting for some of Europe's most prestigious design companies, such as Authentics, Cappellini, Driadc and SCP. Many of his products have received important design awards, and in 1999 he won a competition to furnish the public square in London's Canary Wharf.
