During the eighteen years I have spent teaching high school science, I came to realize that students rarely get taught how to learn.To remedy this situation, I designed a learning strategy course that was embedded in the Year 8 science curriculum at my school.The results were so impressive, I expanded the program further and completed my PhD on the basis ofthis project and its outstanding outcomes.For the past six years, I have been tutoring students one on one using these techniques, and they have thrived.Strategies have also been developed for students with learning challenges who respond well, gaining confidence and demonstrating improved competence.Students are given the gift of learning-they finally know how to learn.
