Amar Mitra [1951- present] is a powerful award-wining writer of the contemporary era, who writes about the lost time, the loss of glory of both rural and metropolitan lives. He has won numerous awards for his novels and short stories, like All-India Katha Award [for a story, Swadeshjatra], Amritalok Award [ for the novel, Arundhati Tarar Raat] and lately Sarat Memorial Award [ lifetime achievement]. He had won Sahitya Akademi award for his novel "Dhruvaputra", in 2006. In 2022, he has won the prestigious a O. Henry Award from the U.S for his short story, Gaonburo.
