Worked nearly 20 years as agronomist and manager of a chain of independent retail fertilizer and ag-protection facilities in Illinois.
Went back to University of Illinois and complete PhD in soil chemistry in 1993.
Joined North Dakota State University as Extension Soil Specialist in 1994.
Research includes soil sampling for site-specific nutrient management, including nitrogen; use of active-optical sensors and acoustic height sensors for in-season nitrogen management. Conducted field research that has resulted in an overhaul of all fertilizer recommendations in North Dakota.
