Born in 1999, Rin Usami was raised in Kanagawa Prefecture, just outside of Tokyo, and began writing novels in high school. Her debut novel Kaka, won the 56th Bungei Prize and the 33rd Yukio Mishima Prize. For her second novel, Idol, Burning, Usami received the prestigious Akutagawa Prize--making her the third youngest recipient in the award's history. She is currently an undergraduate student at Waseda University in Tokyo.
