George Topîrceanu was born at the end of the 19th century in Bucharest, Romania. He became famous nationally for his poetry, prose, parodies, and satire. Pirin Planina is just one of the memorialist volumes he published after the war, his unique style being displayed in other vivid recollections as well, such as In Their Claw... Memories from Bulgaria and Light Sketches. His distinct poetry received critical acclaim and he became a member of the Romanian Academy in 1926.
