SHERMAN HARGRAVE served ten years in the U.S. Navy as a cook, then went on to study at the Culinary Institute of America. After graduating in 1991 and subsequently working at several major hotels, he opened his award-winning restaurant in San Diego, California: Sherman's Cajun and Creole Buffet. From 1997 to 2003 he employed numerous recovering addicts and alcoholics, fresh out of treatment programs, thus giving them a second chance to succeed in the workforce. After walking away from his successful restaurant business, Sherman dedicated his life to a metaphysical approach he discovered for recovery. To pursue this course of action, he moved to Los Angeles in 2004 to study at the Agape University in Culver City and also took online courses at The University of Metaphysics. As someone who has overcome twenty years of the horrors of addiction and who has been actively involved in his own recovery and the recovery of others, Sherman truly earned the right to talk about this wonderfully new and exciting approach to recovery. He has spent the last twenty-five years of his life teaching courses and facilitating seminars in prisons, alcohol and drug treatment centers, and at various military facilities. The father of one son, Sherman now lives in Cebu City, Philippines, where he writes books and continues his metaphysical practice.
