As the parent of a child diagnosed with late-onset hearing loss, Valerie James Abbott is passionate about finding new ways to improve hearing loss detection in young children, increase early intervention access and enrollment, and introduce families to the resources and support programs they may need to make the best decisions for their child. She is an advocate and champion for the mission of Early Hearing Detection & Intervention programs and active supporter of local, state and national family support organizations. A native of Long Island and a graduate of Hollins College, Valerie has served on boards and state councils that are dedicated to serving families of children who are deaf or hard of hearing. She has proudly called Virginia 'home' for more than 30 years.
