Mauro Almaviva is a medical doctor who was born in Bologna, Italy. He has worked extensively in public health throughout Africa with the Italian Cooperation. His deep interest in history and archaeology resulted in him finding previously unrecorded rock art sites in Eswatini. His African travels are published in Il Cofanetto Magico, and he is the co-author of a book (in press) on the WW II defences of Alghero in Italy.
