Hilda Martinez, a National Board-Certified teacher, has spent the last 20 years in inner-city schools at the elementary school level. She has a passion for early literacy and is currently an RTI teacher, where she helps design and implement plans for action for students exhibiting Tier 2 and 3 support. She earned her MA in curriculum and instruction under the guidance of Dr. Doug Fisher and Dr. Diane Lapp from San Diego State University and is BLCAD certified. She has ten years' experience teaching in bilingual (Spanish) classrooms.
Hilda loves to share her passion for learning and has presented at conferences topics that support English Language Learners, close reading, guided reading, and the gradual release of responsibility. She is also a featured contributor for D. Fisher, N. Frey, and J. Hattie's Visible Learning for Literacy and Visible Learning for Math and "This is Balanced Literacy!" by Douglas B. Fisher, Nancy Akhavan, and Nancy Frey, as well as a contributor for FIT: Framework for Intentional and Targeted Teaching DVD. She enjoys working with San Diego State University's credential program and has mentored 30+ student teachers throughout her career. She currently teaches at Zamorano Fine Arts Academy, an arts magnet school in San Diego Unified School District. She was named the 2019 San Diego Unified School District Elementary School Teacher of the Year.
