June CL Tan writes science fiction and fantasy inspired by her childhood in multicultural Singapore where she was raised on a diet of classic books and wuxia movies, caffeine and congee. As a child, she dreamed of being a fashion designer and an author.

After spending two years musing about Bruce Lee and early 20th century Shanghai cinema, she received an MA in Cinema Studies from NYU. Deciding she had enough of academia, she went on to work at start-ups focusing on education and technology and lived for a brief period in Shanghai.

Along the way, she beat cancer and realized she could write lovingly detailed descriptions of her characters’ clothes in her stories and thus, fulfil both her childhood dreams.

When she is not writing, she can be found wandering the streets of New York City in search of everyday mysteries and miracles.
