Bernard Lord Manning was born at Caistor, Lincolnshire, on December 31st, 1892, and died at Cambridge on December 8th, 1941. His father was a Congregational Minister. He was educated at Caistor Grammar School, and at Jesus College, Cambridge, where he was a successful scholar, fellow, bursar, senior tutor and a lecturer in history at the University.
