Li Ran is a professor at Warwick University, UK and Chongqing University, China. After his PhD he participated in the commissioning of Gezhouba-Shanghai HVDC System. Between 1992 and 1999, he was a postdoctoral research fellow with the Universities of Aberdeen, Nottingham and Heriot-Watt. He became a chair at Durham University in 2010 and joined the University of Warwick in 2012. He was a deputy director for the State Key Laboratory in Power Transmission Equipment and System Security, China.
