Dr. Sonnenberg is a professor in the Department of Education at Rockhurst University in Kansas City, Missouri. She co-founded STEAM Studio in 2014, wanting to create a space where current and future teachers could experience Design Thinking and develop that method in their own classrooms. Anyone who knows Dr. Sonnenberg knows that she cannot sit still. Having researched the effectiveness of mobility in increased engagement, she makes sure that in her Rockhurst University graduate and undergraduate courses, as well as in STEAM Studio, she and her learners are moving, questioning, building and evolving themselves: mind, body and (hopefully) soul. She was awarded the 2015 Excellence in Community-Based Teaching & Scholarship Award and the 2016 Educator of the Year award from the American Institute of Architects.
