Silas S. Ncozana served as Deputy General Secretary during the last years of Jonathan Sangaya's life and many observers noted that there was a special "chemistry" in the relationship between the two. Later, Ncozana succeeded his old mentor as General Secretary of the Synod of Blantyre, a post in which he served from 1985 to 1995. He was thus uniquely well-equipped to write this biography which has become a standard text on the history of the Synod of Blantyre.
