Antony Altbeker has spent 13 years working in and around the criminal justice system. He is the author of The Dirty Work of Democracy: A year on the streets with the SAPS, and spent four years working for the Minister of Safety and Security in the 1990s. He has also worked at the National Treasury, the Centre for the Study of Violence and Reconciliation and the Institute for Security Studies. The book draws on this experience to offer an accessible analysis of what's gone wrong and what needs to be done
