Tom Schmidt earned a PhD at Cambridge University and taught religion, literature, and writing over a span of four decades in three states, working in several types of institutions and with students across the socio-economic spectrum. Along the way, Tom's writing interests turned from academic to imaginative. In the past ten years, he has published two books exploring the intersection of scholarship and fiction, two magical realist novels, and numerous poems in literary journals. His first poetry chapbook, Enough to Drink or Drown, appeared in 2020.
