Laura Erickson Carter has owned and operated Carter Publishing Studio, Inc., a publication design and layout firm, since 1997, and she launched the publishing imprint Sweetspire Press in 2018. She is an avid gardener who spends much of her spare time maintaining an organic raised bed system she and her father share, overlooking a small lake on her parents' rural property. When not designing books and magazines or digging in the dirt, she enjoys cooking, singing, listening to music, reading, theater (especially plays written by daughter Emma Carter), and genealogy. She frequently hosts family gatherings and visiting friends in her central Missouri home, where she lives with her husband Jim and their two cats.
