Nicanor Perlas is President of the Centre for Alternative Development Initiatives in the Philippines.
He was the recipient of the 1994 UNEP Global 500 Award (an award for international environmental achievement) for his work on sustainable agriculture and for galvanizing action against hazardous pesticides.
Besides acting as consultant to the UN, to government as well as NGOs on sustainable agriculture and development, Nicanor Perlas also provides technical assistance to NGO's and farmers' organisations practising large-scale sustainable agriculture in the Philippines.
