Valerie Ann Leeds is an independent curator and scholar specializing in the work of Robert Henri. Her recent projects include serving as the guest curator for Spanish Sojourns: Robert Henri and the Spirit of Spain, a traveling exhibition organized with the Telfair Museum of Art, Savannah; Southwestern Allure: The Art of the Santa Fe Art Colony, a traveling exhibition, the first to be devoted to the development of the Santa Fe art colony; Road to Corrymore: Robert Henri and Ireland for the Mint Museum, Charlotte, North Carolina; and Georgia O'Keeffe and the Faraway: Nature and Image (2010) in association with the Georgia O'Keeffe Museum. Past publications include "My People" The Portraits of Robert Henri (1994); Robert Henri in Santa Fe: His Work and Influence (1998); Robert Henri: The Painted Spirit (2005); and various studies of The Eight and their extended circle. Leeds received a Ph.D. from the Graduate Center of the City University of New York, and has held curatorial positions at the Flint Institute of Arts, Orlando Museum of Art, Tampa Museum of Art, and Whitney Museum of American Art.
