Nancy Werking Poling's motivation to write comes from a concern for women's struggles and triumphs. Growing up, she sensed a mystique surrounding her aunt's sister, a white woman who had married a black man and moved to Mexico. Years later, an eleven-day interview allowed Poling into the private realm of that marriage. Nancy Werking Poling and her husband live in the mountains of western North Carolina.
