Jon Whalen is a United States Army veteran who served in an armored cavalry unit in West Germany during the Cold War and later worked as a New York State Corrections Officer at Sing Sing and Auburn Prisons. While at Auburn he attended Oswego College (SUNY) and earned a bachelor's degree in English. He and his son, Bernard Whalen, co-authored the novel Justifiable Homicide (Ballantine Books, 2000).
