Associate Professor at California College of the Arts and vice president for the Annual Conference of the College Art Association, specializing inU.S. art of the twentieth century and contemporary African Diaspora art. She is coeditor of Romare Bearden: American Modernist (Yale University Press, 2011) and author of Making Race: Modernism and “Racial Art” in America (University of Washington Press, 2012).
