Dr Stephen Edwards was born in Hobart in 1954. He moved to Sydney at the age of 18 where he completed his nursing training at Sydney Hospital. He spent four years training as a Naturopath and Osteopath in London during the 1980s. He returned to Australia and studied Medicine at Sydney University, graduating in 1999. After working as a GP in Sydney and Tasmania he developed a speciality in aged care. He established a busy and popular practice on the Central Coast of NSW focusing on nursing home care. In 2006 Dr Edwards was extradited to Tasmania for the alleged murder of his mother, where he spent three months in jail and four years on bail in Tasmania. The case was dropped when he developed terminal cancer. In spite of this, he has written his own account of what he claims is a miscarriage of justice.
