The author was brought up on a working farm and country shooting estate. She achieved BA hons. from York University, then a post graduate MSc at Warwick University. Following a serious car crash she had to give up work and re-focus. She became a magistrate in 1999 and serves in the Midlands. Following a move with her husband to a small shooting estate, they now concentrate on rearing pheasants and red-leg partridges, running the estate and maintaining their rough shoot.
