Karl Lee resides in Rio Rancho, New Mexico, with his wife Della. They have four daughters, six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He is a veteran of the Vietnam War and was awarded the Bronze Star, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal with 60 Device, Vietnam Gallantry Cross with Palm, and Joint Service Commendation Medal with first Oak Leaf Cluster. He retired from the army as an Infantry First Sergeant, and later retired from a regional university in Pennsylvania as an academic librarian.
