Dr Muriel Porter, a Melbourne journalist, author and historian, has been a member of the Anglican Church of Australia's General Synod and its Standing Committee for more than twenty-five years. She is a prominent advocate for the full equality of women and gay people in all aspects of the church's life, and has written extensively about the issues facing the contemporary church.
