Dr. V. Ramamurthy, Principal Scientist, National Bureau of Soil Survey and Land Use Planning (NBSS&LUP), Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) was born on March 1964 in Bangalore Rural district, Karnataka. He has obtained Ph D (1993) from University of Agricultural Sciences, GKVK, Bangalore. He passed ARS in 1990 and started his career as Scientist in 1991 at Central Research Institute for Dryland Agriculture, Hyderabad, subsequently served 8 years in various capacities at Indian Grassland and Fodder Research Institute, Jhansi and IGFRI Research Station, Dharwad. He underwent advanced training in "Forage seed Production, Seed Testing and Development of new cultivators" at Department of Primary Industries (DPI) and University of Queensland, Australia and "Smallholder Pasture Seed Production" in North East Thailand. He joined National Bureau of Soil Survey and Land Use Planning (NBSS&LUP), Nagpur in 2000 and since 2008 he is working at NBSS&LUP Regional Centre, Bangalore. He has made outstanding contributions in the field of forage seed production, production of forages on bunds, soil based agro-technology transfer, successfully implemented participatory and integrated land use plan at village level in Central and Southern India and preparation and transfer of district and block level land use planning plans to implementing agencies. He has published 60 research papers in journals, 10 research papers in proceedings, 10 book chapters, 10 research/technical bulletins, 3 books/manuals and 25 popular articles. He has also presented over 46 papers in national and international forum. Dr V. Ramamurthy, a recipient of Swami Sahajananda Sarswati Extension Scientist ICAR Award for the Biennium 2005-06, Crawford fund International Fellowship in 1999, ISA Fellow in 2014, UAS Gold Medal in M.Sc (Agri) and Ph.D and Karnataka State award in 1988.
