A nonprofit leader and strategist, Tom Peterson headed marketing and communications at Heifer International for almost two decades. Under his leadership annual marketing revenue grew from $3 million in 1992 to $90 million in 2008. Peterson and team turned a low-performing fundraising program-the gift catalog that Heifer innovated-into one that is copied worldwide. Heifer was also an early leader in online fundraising. During Peterson's tenure Heifer was featured in The New York Times, Fast Company, The Oprah Winfrey Show, CNN, 60 Minutes and West Wing. Peterson teaches marketing for nonprofits at the Clinton School of Public Service in Little Rock. Among other activities, he manages the communications for Stakeholder Health, a learning collaborative of health systems. In the 1980s, he edited Seeds, a magazine about U.S. and world hunger.
