Mal lives in North West England with his partner and cat. He enjoys playing the saxophone, hill walking and running. If you're hiking in Snowdonia or the lakes you may find yourself passing him on a mountain path. He is a social worker for an emergency duty team and has been working in the public sector for over thirty years. He is a socialist, political activist, shop steward and supporter of the social work action network. Mal's novel, Can Openers, reflects his fear of what could happen if we do not stand up for the welfare state and where the present policies on austerity could lead.
