Aziz Chouaki was born in 1951, grew up in Algeria, and learned to play the guitar to the music of the Beatles, the Rolling Stones, and Jimi Hendrix - music later forbidden by the regime. Playing in nightclubs and studying literature soon became his focus. When Islamic terrorism came to power in Algeria in the 1990s, he received threats and moved to France. This is his first UK publication.
