Anne Eliot Crompton has raised ponies and goats, and has painted wildlife and written for adults as well as for younger readers. She lives with her husband and family in Chesterfield, a Massachusetts hill town much like Winterfield, where deer browse in gardens and bears cross roads. She is the author of Snow Pony.
