John B. Herbich, Ph.D., P.E. is Professor Emeritus Ocean and Civil Engineering, former Head of the Ocean Engineering Program and former Director of the Center for Dredging Studies at Texas A&M University, College Station, Texas. One of the leading experts in coastal and ocean engineering education and research in the world, Dr. Herbich is a Fellow and life member of the American Society of Civil Engineers, and has served on panels and committees of the Marine Board, the National Research Council, Academy of Sciences, and is on the board of directors of the Western Dredging Association. He has written more than 200 professional reports and papers, and is also the author or editor of the Handbook of Dredging Engineering; Handbook of Coastal and Ocean Engineering; Seafloor Scour: Design Guidelines for Ocean-Founded Structures; Offshore Pipelines: Design Elements; and Coastal and Deep Ocean Dredging. Dr. Herbich received the prestigious International Coastal Engineering Award in 1993 from the American Society of Civil Engineers, and the Dredge of the Year Award in 1995 from the Western Dredging Association.
