Namulundah Florence was born in Bungoma, Kenya, and teaches at Brooklyn College of the City University of New York. She holds a Ph.D. in education from Fordham University. Her work explores the impact of schooling on self-image and cultural identity and includes: bell hooks' Engaged Pedagogy: A Transgressive Education for Critical Consciousness (1998); From Our Mothers' Hearths: Bukusu Folktales and Proverbs (2005); Multiculturalism 101: The Practical Guide Series (2009); Immigrant Teachers, American Students: Cultural Differences, Cultural Disconnections (2011); and, The Bukusu of Kenya: Folktales, Culture and Social Identities (2011).
