A life long ocean sailor, Hurst has had a widely varied career as an advertising man in New York, Boston, Los Angeles, and San Francisco. Before this he spent four years as a U.S Army Officer in the Intelligence Corps, stationed in Munich, Germany. He worked a year from Brussels in several other West European countries. He lived a total of 5 years on his ocean cruiser sailboat berthed in San Francisco and La Paz, Baja, Mexico.Along the way he found himself, somewhat like Joseph Conrad, sometimes sea in the South Pacific: New Zealand, Tahiti, New Caledonia, He lives today (2018 in Pacific Grove, Califorinia on the Monterey Peninsula.
