David Snellgrove (1920-2016) was renowned for his ability to convey the spirit as well as the textual interpretation of Sanskrit and Tibetan texts relating to the history of Buddhism. Following his retirement from teaching commitments in 1982, and a career-long interest in Tibetan peoples and cultures, Dr. Snellgrove transferred his scholarly focus to South-East Asia, primarily Indonesia and Cambodia, where he resided for over ten years. David Snellgrove was a Doctor of Literature in the University of Cambridge, Professor Emeritus of the University of London and a Fellow of the British Academy.
