Mark McGrain is an artist working in the media of new music, jazz, improvisation, composition, and performance. He is also a poet, educator, and author. Dividing his time between New Orleans and Mexico City, he continues to perform, write, and teach as a creator without borders. A former faculty member at the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston, he authored the text Music Notation (Hal Leonard pub.). His musical compositions and performances have been featured on NPR, PBS, and have enjoyed critical acclaim in the U.S. and international jazz radio markets. Subscribing to a philosophy of continued action enables life continued, he and his photojournalist wife, Cheryl Gerber, enjoy the longevity offered by five shared children, six grandchildren and a cat named Joan Didion.
