Since the publication of his first collection of stories, East End at Your Feet (1976), Farrukh Dhondy, prolific writer, playwright, scriptwriter and activist, has published several works of fiction, among them Poona Company, Trip Trap, Bombay Duck, Black Swan and the recent bestseller Bikini Murders; a biography of C.L.R. James; and a translation of the poetry of Jalaluddin Rumi.
During his stint as Commissioning Editor at Channel 4 TV from 1984 to 1987, he commissioned the works of Mira Nair, Deepa Mehta, Shekhar Kapur and Meera Syal. He has also scripted television serials for Channel 4 TV and the BBC in England and Star TV in India, and written screenplays for films such as Bandit Queen, Split Wide Open, The Alexandria Quartet and The Rising.
