Michael D. Giardina teaches advertising and cultural studies at the University of Illinois-Urbana-Champaign. He is the author of the award-winning Sporting Pedagogies: Performing Culture and Identity in the Global Arena (Peter Lang 2005), and coeditor of such books as Contesting Empire/Globalizing Dissent: Cultural Studies after 9/11 (Paradigm 2006) and Youth Culture and Sport: Identity, Power, and Politics (Routledge 2007).
