Richard Dee was born in York, England, into a family of aviators; both his brother and father served as front-line pilots with the RAF. Dee' s early career was at the British Library working as a systems analyst before he started undergraduate and then Ph.D. studies in the field of cognitive neuroscience. He now works in Canada as a post-doctoral research Fellow conducting NASA-funded research into developing counter-measures for astronaut disorientation during the planned mission to Mars. Dee' s biography of Cayley allows him to combine his scientific and historical knowledge of aviation to produce an accessible and highly-readable account of one of aviation' s unsung heroes. He lives in Toronto.
