Dr. Michael McCann is Director of Safety and Ergonomics at the Center to Protect Workers Rights, the research arm of the Building and Construction Trades Department, AFL-CIO. He received his PhD in Chemistry from Columbia University in 1972, became a certified industrial hygienist in 1979, and is authorized to conduct 10- and 30-hour OSHA courses as an OSHA Construction Outreach Trainer. Dr. McCann primarily does research on falls and electrocutions in construction, and has given presentations at the Construction Safety Council Annual Conference and other construction safety conferences, and at safety professional conferences. He has conducted training at OSHA 500 courses and helped develop and conduct training for construction workers at the World Trade Center. Dr. McCann was formerly NYS Health and Safety Director for the Communications Workers of America, Senior Associate Editor of the 4th edition of the International Labor Organizations Encyclopaedia of Occupational Health and Safety, and, from 1978 to 1996, Executive Director of the Center for Safety in the Arts.
