Dr Pat Ellis, a Barbadian, is a consultant in development, community development and gender issues. A committed feminist and trainer, she has long been in the forefront of research, education and policy advice in relation to women, and more recently has researched the problems faced by Caribbean men and issues of gender equity and gender equality. From 1986 to 1996 she was Programme Consultant for the Women and Development Unit (WAND) at the University of the West Indies. She runs an annual colloquium on particular Caribbean themes -- topics so far have included The Challenge of Ageing; Organizational Change; and Lonely at the Top (the latter directly specifically at top Caribbean women executives in the public and private sectors).
In addition to numerous reports and policy documents, she has written a set of How To Do It booklets on effective community development. Her books include Women of the Caribbean (Zed Books, 1986)
