Vivekanand Jha was former Director, Indian Council for Historical Research. He was Editor of Indian Historical Review (20 Volumes, 1974-94), Itihas (Hindi) (vols. I-III, 1992-4); and co-editor of Indian Society: Historical Probings (1974) as well as the Journal of Studies on Ancient India (1998) of the World Association for Vedic Studies. He authored Mauryan India (2011, 2004) as part of People's History of India Series, along with Irfan Habib.
