Carla Blake (1940-2020) was a well-renowned gardener, food writer, and journalist. She lived life to the fullest, cherishing her family, friends, dogs, writing, and community, and grew her own vegetables. Blake was an advocate for fresh, locally produced food and believed that preparing and enjoying food with others was one of life's most fulfilling aspects. Her spectacular garden, which featured in the O'Brien Guide to Irish Gardens, raised thousands for charity over the years. Blake's journalism provided a unique record of 1960s and 1970s Irish social history, as cited in the Dictionary of Munster Women Writers 1800–2000. She passed away in 2020, leaving behind a rich legacy as a passionate promoter of gardening, good food, and community spirit.
